BROWN MACKIE COLLEGE ATTENDS 2014 CLINTON GLOBAL INITIATIVE AMERICA MEETING WITH CAREER ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL, CHAMPIONING WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

CINCINNATI, July 28, 2014 — The Brown Mackie College system of schools joined Smart Horizons Career Online Education (SHCOE) and Cengage Learning's ed2go at the 2014 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) America meeting, a program of the Clinton Global Initiative that addresses economic recovery in the United States. The school is a workforce training partner in SHCOE/ed2go's Commitment to Action which aims to re-engage youth and young adults in education and support employers in providing workforce training as part of CGI's Education & Workforce Development track.

“The meeting provided an opportunity to interact with educators from around the world who share Brown Mackie College’s community engagement agenda of empowering youth and reconnecting them to the educational system,” said Michelle Toney, vice president of academic and student affairs at Brown Mackie College. “CGI America 2014 provided an opportunity for us to share innovative ideas to address the challenges facing our workforce and will influence our commitment and efforts in making a continued positive impact in reconnecting American youth to education.”

In February of this year, Brown Mackie College launched Career Online High School (COHS) in partnership with SHCOE and ed2go, making it the first post-secondary institution to join COHS’ “Commitment to Action.” The online high school program is offered in computer labs on six Brown Mackie College campuses and allows students to earn an accredited high school diploma plus career certificate. Brown Mackie College donates both the classroom space for the program and an instructor who serves as a facilitator to lead students through the program.

“The program offers extensive support to students in completing their high school education – many of whom have been unsuccessful in previous academic settings,” said Toney. “From COHS’ principal to the academic coaches and the administrators, the level of commitment and responsiveness students receive from COHS is outstanding. We are proud to be a partner in making an impact in these students’ lives.”
