Financial Representative Guiding Clients

Eric Sommers enjoys his new career as a financial representative. Since graduating from Brown Mackie College ― Quad Cities in 2014 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management, he is living the life he dreamed about.

His new credentials helped him secure a position as a financial representative for Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial in Moline, Illinois. This is a highly visible position, where he constantly meets new people and counsels them on money management. “I spend most of my time reaching to our members. I help them develop and implement a plan to provide for their financial security,” Eric says. “I educate members about ways to protect their families and assets from financial disaster.”

He receives great satisfaction working for a company that is intent on helping to improve the lives of others. “I love that with this career, I get what I put into it; there are no limits to what I can achieve,“ he says. Eric is invested in his work, not only helping members, but also helping the community they share. “I get involved with schools and local causes to share our fraternal benefits and improve it.”

The career-focused curriculum was a chief motivator for Eric to enroll at Brown Mackie College ― Quad Cities. The flexible course schedules accommodated his work hours. “They showed me what the professional world is looking for. Each course built upon the others, shaping me into a professional worth noticing,” he says. “The faculty was engaged and committed to my success. The support I received has carried over into a strong network of professionals willing to vouch for me in the business world today.”

Eric appreciated the instructors’ real world work experience, which enhanced his learning. “Technology innovations supplemented my learning experience, and helped older students catch up to current business trends,” he says. “A great attitude and determination to meet your goals can take you far in college.”

As Eric embarks on his new career, he keeps Brown Mackie College ― Quad Cities in mind. “I want to come back and share my overwhelmingly positive experience with new students to show what working hard at Brown Mackie College ― Quad Cities can do for you,” he says. “I would like help students build their careers with the same kind of opportunity that was granted to me.”

Career Services Assists Medical Assistant Grad Find Employment

Angela Robinson longed for higher education, but had big concerns about being able to work fulltime, care for her family, and earn a college degree. The one-class-a-month format at Brown Mackie College ― Quad Cities changed everything.

Angela enjoyed the small class sizes and appreciated the one-on-one interaction with instructors. “I stayed ahead of the game as far as preparing myself for graduation,” says Angela. “Every month brought me closer to graduation.”

Graduating in 2015, Angela earned a Medical Assistant Diploma. She credits Nancy Cerny and Erin Beth from the “awesome Career Services department at Brown Mackie College ― Quad Cities” for helping her find a job that she loves. “I can’t thank them enough,” she says.

Now employed as a medical assistant at Edgerton Women's Health Center in Davenport, Iowa, Angela enjoys being part of a health care team and meeting new people. “My day to day responsibilities include gathering patient health histories, and taking and recording vital signs,” she says. “I also administer birth control injections and set up for procedures.” Showing compassion for others is proving to be a rewarding career for her.

Angela is proud of graduating from Brown Mackie College ― Quad Cities despite facing numerous challenges during academic studies. ”They showed me all the do’s and don’ts of being a medical assistant, and gave me a great outlook on how I would need to interact with patients,” she says. “I plan to continue my education by getting a nursing degree. I also would like to get a degree in education. Hopefully, I can one day teach others the nursing profession.”
