One thing we all notice about hospitals is the vast array of medical equipment everywhere. Have you ever wondered who calibrates these machines? Who maintains them in good working order? Or who fixes them when they don’t function properly?

Meet Claude White, a 2016 graduate of Brown Mackie College – Louisville. He is one of the technicians who understands, repairs and refurbishes complex medical devices. His Associate of Applied Science degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology provided him with the education needed to start his career as a biomedical technician for DRE Medical Equipment in Louisville, Kentucky.

“I am responsible for repairing and refurbishing medical devices,” Claude says. “I check each device for malfunctions. Next I address the issues with repairs, and perform the necessary testing to make sure the equipment meets or exceeds manufacturers’ standards.”

Earning a degree proved to be a challenge Claude willingly accepted. He kept a determined focus on his studies and the job search process. “I worked with Career Services while in school and found a job as a computer repair technician,” he says. He gained on the job experience and knowledge in electronics, and continued to seek work in the biomedical field.

“I was persistent, patient, and diligent in my career search. In the end, I succeeded. I am proud of completing my degree at Brown Mackie College - Louisville and finding professional work. Now I am doing what I love,” says Claude. His future goals include gaining experience, learning more, and becoming at certified Biomedical Tech.

Grad Balances Family Life with Banking Career, 2016

Ebony Foster enjoys her workdays as a personal banker at Academy Bank in St. Louis, Missouri. She has a passion for monetary transactions and setting customers up with bank accounts that best suit their needs. “My degree has allowed me to begin a career in an industry that has always fascinated me,” she says.

Her degree of choice was an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management, which she completed in 2016 at Brown Mackie College - St. Louis. Ebony is glad she went back to school, despite the pressure her studies added to her busy schedule. “I was raising two kids and working full-time while I went to school,” she says. “Each of these is a time-consuming, high-priority responsibility, and I had to make time for all three.”

She chose to study at Brown Mackie College - St. Louis because the flexible class options helped her juggle her job and family. “There were many people there who helped me get through my school years,” Ebony says.

Happy with her new professional career, Ebony is intent on learning more about the business of banking. “One day I would like to become a branch manager. With my knowledge, I would like to help people clean up their credit and get back to a good financial foundation for a secure future,” she says.
