Health Consultant and Clinical Liaison Provides Patient Support

Diana Urista has always believed in the power of education, even though she didn’t choose to attend college immediately after graduating from high school. Diana set her sights on earning a higher degree later in life. “When I found out that Brown Mackie College - San Antonio offers one course a month, I jumped at the opportunity,” she says.

She chose to prepare herself for career in healthcare. Diana worked a fulltime job while enrolled in the academic program. Her rigorous schedule was a challenge she gladly accepted, feeling certain she had chosen the right path forward. She focused on learning the course materials, completing her assignments, and building a base of knowledge that could help her grow professionally.

Diana graduated from Brown Mackie College - San Antonio in 2013, earning an Associate of Science degree in Health Care Administration. Today, Diana works as a health consultant and clinical liaison at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Institute of San Antonio. “My career is very diverse. I am involved in business development for the facility, and also I perform patient evaluations,” says Diana.

Earning a degree gives Diana new confidence. As she explored the different career paths an education provides, she enrolled in a second degree program, a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management, at Brown Mackie College – San Antonio. “My future goal is to one day be an administrator in an assisted living community,” she says.

Medical Assistant Values Determination

Tewana Lowe was working as a certified nursing aide and caring for her children on her own. She longed to do more to help others in the healthcare field. The idea of earning  a Diploma appealed to her and motivated her to find a way to achieve this goal.

She began her academic program at Brown Mackie College - Cincinnati with determination and focus. Tewana worked full-time while studying for her Diploma, taking care of her children, and making arrangements for their care while she was attending classes. She maintained high grades and merited enrollment in the Honor Society.

In 2015, Tewana’s hard work paid off in the form of a Medical Assistant Diploma from Brown Mackie College - Cincinnati. Now she goes off to work each day with a new sense of satisfaction. She works as a medical assistant at TriHealth Bethesda Occupational Medicine in Lebanon, Ohio.

She enjoys seeing patients to exam rooms and recording medical histories and vital signs. “I’m working with people who love their jobs and I’m helping others,” she says. “I got here with lots of hard work. I always wanted to do this job, and I'm happy where I'm at right now in my life.”

Looking back on her academic journey, Tewana is grateful for the supportive environment at Brown Mackie College - Cincinnati. “This school is one of the best schools I ever attended. I had all the help I needed to make this journey the most successful one ever,” she says. She remembers missing her children at times during her studies. This aspect of the experience taught them all how temporary sacrifice can bring permanent benefits to their lives.

Tewana hopes to return to Brown Mackie College - Cincinnati to move forward in her education by preparing to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
