Practical Nursing (70 Credits)

Practical nursing education enables the student to acquire principles and knowledge from the biological and behavioral sciences as well as the science of nursing. This knowledge forms the basis for utilizing the nursing process in the field of practical nursing. Concurrent integration of theory into clinical practice is an important aspect of practical nursing education. Practical nursing education prepares the graduate to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for practical nursing. Practical nursing graduates prepared to seek entry-level positions as members of a health care team in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health, and a variety of other health care areas.

The Kentucky Board of Nursing has acted to grant conditional approval status for the pre-licensure of the Practical Nursing diploma program at Brown Mackie College — Northern Kentucky. A factor in the decision was based on the graduates’ first-time NCLEX pass rate of 91%.
