Brown Mackie College – Michigan City has begun offering a new Associate of Applied Science degree program in Health & Therapeutic Massage. The program, which was introduced in response to the increasing demands of the health care and personal services industries, will prepare students to pursue a career as a massage therapist.
The new program provides students with the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, practice, and professionalism necessary to obtain an entry-level position as a massage therapist working in healthcare settings, salons, day spas, or as a self-employed therapist working from home. The program requires 96 quarter credit hours and 1,238 contact hours.
The program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the essential elements of massage therapy including Swedish massage techniques, Trigger Point Therapy, Sports Massage & Holistic Health, along with massage for special populations. The curriculum is designed to focus on the foundations of massage therapy along with the essential elements required to pursue becoming a licensed provider and includes a four-week externship where students will put the acquired skills into practice working as a massage therapist prior to graduation.
