Brown Mackie College — Michigan City is very proud of its long history and its many graduates who have become successful, contributing members of our community. We look forward to the continued growth and the development of our students with a sense of confidence and pride.

1890: Mr. A.N Hirons of LaPorte, Indiana, established LaPorte Business College, later to be known as Commonwealth Business College

1919: Ownership transferred to Grace and J.J. Moore, who operated the College successfully for nearly 30 years. After World War II, Harley and Stephanie Reese operated the College under the name of Reese School of Business

1975: Ownership changed to Steven C. Smith, and the school’s name changed to Commonwealth Business College

1984: The College opened a second location in Merrillville, Indiana

1985: The College opened a third location in Davenport, Iowa

1987: The Davenport location was relocated to its present site in Moline, Illinois

1995: The College’s ownership changed and the College begins operation under Commonwealth Business College Education Corporation

1997: The LaPorte site was relocated to its present site in Michigan City, Indiana

1998: The Merrillville site was relocated to its present site in the Twin Towers

2002: The Michigan City site completes a building addition and major renovations

2003: The College’s ownership changed, and the College began operating as Brown Mackie College – Michigan City under Education Management Corporation (EDMC)

Brown Mackie College — Michigan City is located in northwest Indiana, just over one mile north of Interstate 94, near the intersection of routes 20 and 421. In 2002, the College underwent a major renovation and added 3,360 square feet for a total of 10,338 square feet of occupancy. An additional medical laboratory, a larger library, new classrooms, and a bookstore were added. All classrooms and the library are equipped with industry relevant technology including multi-media projectors, surround sound audio systems, VCRs, and DVD players. Five of the 10 new classrooms are equipped with networked computer systems. The two medical laboratories contain newly acquired medical equipment and instructional tools and supplies. Administrative offices are easily accessible to students. Additional parking spaces were added in 2002, providing students and employees with ample parking at no additional charge. The College is a smoke-free environment.
