Lisa Talley knows the benefits of hard work, and her professional career reflects it. A spring 2005 graduate of Brown Mackie College — Merrillville, Lisa currently works for B&H Technical Services, Inc., in Merrillville, Indiana.
B&H Technical, one in a cluster of four companies, is a supplier of engineering paper and toners. Lisa applies her degree in Accounting Technology directly to her work in the Accounting department of the company. What's more, she will soon be overseeing the accounting for all four companies.
She obtained this position through a job lead from the Career Services Department at Brown Mackie College — Merrillville. Her position responsibilities include bank reconciliation, accounts payable, collections and service maintenance contracts. She went to her interview and was hired on the spot. "I was floored when I found out that I was chosen as a potential candidate for this job. I'm not used to being praised for the things that I accomplish, and I carry this honor in my heart very deeply. People have expressed that they see me as a leader," says Lisa.
When asked why she attended Brown Mackie College — Merrillville, Lisa replied, "I came to Brown Mackie College — Merrillville because of the flexibility of the hours. I liked the fact that I could take just one class at a time and focus on that specific course. The hours and days were convenient for me and helped me balance both academic and family life."
Having seen what career doors have opened because of her education, Lisa offers some advice to current Brown Mackie College — Merrillville students: "Giving your all in school will not only be a gift you give yourself, but something that others can never take away from you."
She believes that if a student is determined, there is no limit to the things he or she can achieve. "I carry myself with confidence, give myself to others in need and believe in working as hard as I can. I have high values for my employer, family, friends and myself. My determination shows in my achievements," says Lisa.
