Brown Mackie College – Louisville has begun offering a new Diploma in Practical Nursing program. The program, which was introduced in response to the increasing demands of the health care industry, will enable students to acquire principles and knowledge from the biological and behavioral science as well as the science of nursing. This knowledge forms the basis for utilizing the nursing process in the field of practical nursing. Students will learn to utilize the nursing process to assist clients in attaining, maintaining, or regaining optimal health. Concurrent integration of theory into clinical practice is an important aspect of practical nursing.
The Practical Nursing program helps prepare graduates to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for practical nursing which will permit them to work as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Practical nursing graduates gain the knowledge, skills, practice and professionalism necessary to obtain entry-level positions as members of a health care team in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health, and a variety of other health care areas. The program requires 76 quarter credit hours and 1,416 contact hours.
