(LENEXA, Kan. - December 12, 2006) Brown Mackie College in Kansas has recently added two new members to its Board of Trustees: Carol Brandert and Elsie Faciane. The Brown Mackie College Board of Trustees in Kansas serves as the governing body of both Brown Mackie College - Kansas City and Brown Mackie College - Salina.
"We are thrilled that Carol and Elsie have joined the Board and look forward to their commitment to help guide the future of Brown Mackie College in Kansas," said Richard Thome, president of Brown Mackie College - Kansas City and secretary of the school's Board of Trustees. "Carol has a life-long commitment to quality education, and her insights will be invaluable for us and our students. Elsie is passionate about educational access, and her expertise in the health care fields will be a welcome addition to the Board's leadership."
Brandert, a resident of Salina, Kan., earned a BA from Midland Lutheran College, an MA from the University of Nebraska, and is ABD at Kansas State University in English Literature. She retired from the Salina Public School district in 2002, having taught English at the high school level since 1963. She is the President of the USD 305 Board of Education and served as its Vice President in the year prior. She is a member of many service and professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels, and was named Salina's "Citizen of the Year" of 2006 in honor of her long-time commitment to the community.
Elsie Faciane of Kansas City earned her Juris Doctor at Washburn University and later a Master of Health Administration from Tulane University. A native of Louisiana, she currently serves as Senior Legal Counsel for HCA-Midwest in the greater Kansas City office. She previously served as Special Assistant District Attorney in St. Tammany Parish, LA, and practiced law as an associate attorney in New Jersey. She has served on the board of The Learning Exchange for two years, and has been recognized widely for her volunteerism with the YWCA and various children's advocacy groups.
