Brown Mackie College – Findlay held its fall 2008 Commencement Ceremony on Friday evening, October 17, at Parkview Christian Church. Campus President, Wayne Korpics and Lisa Rudasill, Dean of Academic Affairs, and faculty and staff congratulated 137 graduates. Nina Parker, founder of the Black Heritage Library and Multicultural Center was the keynote speaker.
Due to the monthly delivery of classes at Brown Mackie College leading to monthly graduates, the graduation ceremony is celebrated twice per year. Graduates were students who completed their programs between April and September 2008. The breakdown of graduates was as follows: Practical Nursing – 103, Allied Health – 17, Business – 10, and Paralegal/Criminal Justice – 7.
In addition to the graduation ceremony, the school’s Nursing Program had a Capping and Pinning Ceremony following the traditional approach of recognizing the successful challenge of their program. This tradition began in the 1800’s with Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. While Brown Mackie College – Findlay’s nursing faculty were presenting the nursing graduates with their caps and pins, note cards prepared by the graduates were read expressing gratitude and experiences while completing the program.
