Each year, interior designers throughout Minnesota submit requests to work on the ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Showcase Home. Thirty-seven Interior Design students from The Art Institutes International Minnesota have the honor of designing the entire lower level consisting of seven rooms for the 2008 ASID Showcase Home in Minneapolis. This is the third year in which Interior Design students from The Art Institutes International Minnesota have been invited to participate in the ASID Showcase Home. The project was the focus of an Advanced Detailing class included in the Interior Design curriculum at The Art Institutes International Minnesota. The goal of the project was to provide upper-level Interior Design students the opportunity to participate in a real-world project that involved continuously evolving and changing budgets, deadlines, and client and committee decisions. The students had to work in groups to complete the entire design process from conceptual development to the installation in order to finish the room. Part of the project’s development was to create a decision-making process and task-distribution system in order to delegate various jobs in order to complete their spaces in an aesthetically pleasing manner, on time, and within the approved budget.
The students involved in the project include Laura Addison of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Micki Agar of Duluth, Minnesota; Mandy Bauer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jane Beckman of Willmar, Minnesota; Ashley Carlson of St. Paul, Minnesota; Sara Cooke of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; Linda Dawson of Wyoming, Minnesota; Stacy Dennis of Hopkins, Minnesota; Jessica Doody of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Justin Frost of Lakeville, Minnesota; Temsiri Green of Monticello, Minnesota; Rachel Harvey of East Bethel, Minnesota; Ashar Hassan of Columbia Heights, Minnesota; Cat Hoa of Blaine, Minnesota, Lisa Jansen of Omaha, Nebraska; Jessica Jespen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Christine Kaine of Crystal, Minnesota; Tarry Logsdon of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Katy Ludowese of Stewart, Minnesota; Jon Mcaab of Alexandria, Minnesota; Shannon Meierhofer of Monticello, Minnesota; Erin Moneypenny of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jennifer Nelson-Anderson of Corcoran, Minnesota; April Percell of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Alicia Pinotti of Maplewood, Minnesota; Alyssa Ploszay of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Andrea Santolla of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Amy Sather of Lakeville, Minnesota; Jeanine Schering of Plymouth, Minnesota; Carlie Sewald of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Lucy McNeill of Brainerd, Minnesota; Anna Thomsen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Rebekah Todd of Maple Grove, Minnesota; Jacqui Tretsven of Lino Lakes, Minnesota; Maria Ugboajah of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Candy Vogel of East Bethel, Minnesota and Andrea Whisler of Oakdale, Minnesota.
According to Dan Whittaker, the Interior Design instructor for this project, "The students spent three quarters developing this project. They began [the project] in late October 2007 and various teams worked on the house and will continue to do so until late June. The students only received credit for their work in October 2007 when they were enrolled in my Advanced Detailing class. Thereafter, it was all pro bono work."
