(Cincinnati, OH - March 13, 2008) Brown Mackie College has recently appointed J. Stephen Dobbins as the school system's Senior Director of Communications & Public Relations. In this newly created position, Dobbins will be responsible for leading and implementing internal and external communication programs and strategies for Brown Mackie College system's 18 college locations in eight states. He is based at Brown Mackie College Central Services office in Cincinnati.
A native Cincinnatian, Dobbins previously served as principal for HRD Consulting, a public relations and strategic management firm. He also served as Area Director for Education Station, LLC and Director of Media & Community Relations for Union Institute & University and its academic learning centers. He also served as Lobbyist, and Director and Manager of Community Affairs for Cinergy Corp. (now Duke Energy).
As a loaned executive from Cinergy, Dobbins served as President & CEO of CommUNITY, a major public service and community dialogue campaign in cooperation with National Conference of Christians and Jews (NCCJ) aimed at celebrating our similarities and appreciating our differences.
An active community leader, Dobbins has served on many boards, including Blue Chip Opportunity Fund, Cincinnati Parks Foundation, Cincinnati Convention & Visitors Bureau, Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency, Hoxworth Blood Center, Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (Dayton, OH), and Ohio Parents for Drug Free Youth (Columbus, OH) to name a few.
Presently, he serves on the boards of Cincinnati Arts Association, Cincinnati Union Bethel, Schmidlapp Education Fund, and chairs the Community Services YMCA Board of Directors. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America as well.
Dobbins is a Leadership Cincinnati and Leadership Ohio graduate, YMCA Black Achiever, SuccessGuide Honoree, was included in Who's Who in Finance and Industry and Who's Who in Black Cincinnati, inducted in Withrow High School Hall of Fame, received Special Recognition & Honor from the Advertising Club of Cincinnati-Diversity Day and City of Cincinnati Volunteer Recognition Award, and co-chaired the Olympic Community Torchbearers Judging Committee.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Administrative Management from the University of Cincinnati and earned a professional certificate from the Executive Public Policy Institute in Washington, DC and from Academic Impressions Crisis Communications Management Institute. He has completed the initial requisites and is on schedule to earn Six Sigma Black Belt certification this year.
