For Shane Michael Cunningham, earning an Associate of Science degree in Business Management from Brown Mackie College — Fort Wayne provided greater responsibility, greater profitability, and greater freedom. This 2013 graduate now works for Automatic Data Processing, Inc (ADP) in Fort Wayne, Indiana as a district manger.
“I chose Business Management because it is so wide open you can do what you want with it,” says Shane. “I followed the career path that Brown Mackie College — Fort Wayne laid out for me. It was simple. I put together a good portfolio to sell my success. Anyone can do this because the school gives you all the support and help you need to find a job before you even finish the program.”
Going back to school can be a difficult step. “My prized accomplishment was having the will to get back to school to increase my earning potential. My second accomplishment was finishing the program and finally having that weight lifted from my shoulders,” he says.
Working from a satellite office at ADP, Shane is responsible for business development growth in northern Indiana. “I travel to companies in 32 zip codes, working with different vertical markets to help businesses in specific industries find greater success in their day-to-day activities,” he explains. “The one thing I enjoy most is my freedom and time spent out of the office. I also enjoy my paycheck! At the end of the day, I am not married to my career and I get to enjoy the better things in life.”
Shane chose Brown Mackie College — Fort Wayne because of the comprehensive academic programs and flexible class schedules. “Students at other schools get so tired of all the extra work involved in scheduling classes and buying books, but this school takes care of all that for you,” says Shane. “The graduation rate is excellent because they have an awesome system to get you through so you can move on and become successful.”
The system components that Shane values the most are portfolio development support, mock interviews, networking opportunities, job leads, and the insight of instructors who work in the industries they teach. “I would like to work with students in the future,” he says. “I really enjoy what I do now; but at the end of the day I am helping businesses grow and develop. I think I might find greater satisfaction from helping people become breadwinners for their families.”
