Quanetta Clark wanted to work for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. She turned to Brown Mackie College — Miami for help in achieving her goal. She was pleased to find a welcoming staff, hands-on curriculum, and a course schedule that allowed her to focus on one subject at a time. As she progressed through the program, she was impressed that the instructors and career services advisors were interested in getting to know her as a person and not just a student.
She graduated from Brown Mackie College — Miami in 2012, earning an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice. She then achieved her dream, joining the staff of the Broward County Sheriff's Office in Broward, Florida as a detention technician.
“My concentration courses Homeland Security, Juvenile Justice and Correctional Systems and Practices played a key role in my employment with the Broward Sheriff's Office. I would like to thank the instructors for providing me the educational tools that I needed to succeed,” Quanetta says.
Her day-to-day responsibilities are to monitor closed circuit television cameras, telephones, alarms systems, intercom panels, and control panel doors. “I alert certified personnel to conditions or circumstances which may inhibit the efficient operations of the facility, and provide recommendations for resolution as appropriate,” she says. “I love being a part of the Broward Sheriff's Office; it's a family just like at Brown Mackie College — Miami,” she says.
Quanetta encourages students to just go for it! “The overall experience at Brown Mackie College — Miami helped me build enough confidence to pursue employment opportunities that I thought I would not get. If you follow the process, you can achieve your goals,” she says.
