Mark Kinsey A Success Story at Brown Mackie College — Quad Cities

(Bettendorf, IA – June 30, 2011) Mark Douglas Kinsey retired from the Moline, Illinois Police Department after a 28-year career and chose Brown Mackie College — Quad Cities as a springboard for the next chapter in his life. He enrolled in the Medical Assisting Diploma program. He was worried about going back to school and being 50 years old did not ease his concern. “I didn’t know if I would fit in, but was pleasantly surprised when I did," he says.
In 2010, Mark earned a Diploma in Medical Assisting. Throughout the program, Mark enjoyed the campus camaraderie. There were bowling parties with students facing off against instructors, and picnics. “Everyone felt like a part of the bigger picture,” Mark says. He also belonged to several student groups and participated in numerous community service activities. One student groups collected hats and gloves for donation to underprivileged children. To raise awareness for safety, one campus community service activity offered free fingerprinting, blood-typing, and photographs of children. College was an interesting challenge for Mark. “I originally started college long before anyone had a computer,” he says. “Sometimes just one little detail can hold you up."
Mark completed his externship at Davenport Clinic in Davenport, Iowa. Immediately after passing the Medical Assisting Certification Exam, the clinic hired him. He considers himself a success.
