Reaching for the stars

Dionne Worrell has developed a more positive outlook on life than ever before. It all began at Brown Mackie College — Miami. With strong encouragement from her mother, Dionne visited the school to investigate her options. She found the friendly, supportive staff and highly flexible class options too good to pass by.
“When you are on a very tight and busy schedule each day, you can have the best of both worlds, taking classes either in the morning or at night,” she says. “The instructors and staff assist you in the best way possible. If you don’t understand the content, they step in to help and make sure everyone is on track.”
Dionne graduated from Brown Mackie College — Miami in 2014, earning an Associate of Science degree in Health Care Administration. Today, she works as a residential care manager at Better Way of Miami Inc. in Miami, Florida.
“I am responsible for primary care, custody, and well-being of patients,” she says. Her varied work day includes conducting inspections and bed checks, supervising medication distribution and meal preparation and service. “I listen to any concerns or problems the patients may have. Being able to make a difference in a person's life for a brighter and better outcome makes for a very positive future,” says Dionne.
“My education has helped me to develop more insight into management skills and to strengthen my empathy, which is very important in my work field,” she says. “I thank everyone for getting me to this point in my life, especially my mom. Earning a college degree is well worth the effort.”
