Like Nike said, "Just Do It"

It is not easy for a new college graduate to find a job when she is six months pregnant; however, Alisha Reeves did not let it stop her. “By being persistent, keeping an updated resume and cover letter, I was able to get a job in the legal field two weeks after my son was born,” she says.
Just two years before, Alisha was working in retail, decidedly underwhelmed by her work. “I was tired of working hard every day and feeling like I was not accomplishing anything,” says Alisha Reeves. “That’s when I decided to go back to school.”
She followed her heart into the legal arena. In 2012, Alisha graduated with honors from Brown Mackie College — Quad Cities, earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal. She now works at the Court Administrator’s Office at the Rock Island County Courthouse in Rock Island, Illinois.
As an executive paralegal for the 21 judges of Rock Island County 14th Judicial Circuit, Alisha enjoys keeping the house in order. She gathers and analyzes statutes, decisions, legal articles, and cases. Her penchant for detail shines as she proofreads opinions, orders, rulings, and correspondence.
Alisha was diligent in her studies, gaining motivation from the real world work experience her instructors shared. She enjoyed membership in the Honor Society Alpha Beta Kappa, and volunteered to participate in the Student Advisor program.
During her time at Brown Mackie College — Quad Cities, Alisha learned to appreciate different perspectives. “Respect everyone's opinions, even if they don't agree with your views of the world,” she says. She advises students to “do the work if you want the grades, and show up for class!”
Alisha looks forward to going to work each day. “What I enjoy most about my work is that I am constantly learning. Like science, law is constantly evolving. There are so many specialty areas in the field, I'm never bored,” Alisha says. “I have wanted to work in the legal field for a long time. I was happy to be able to complete my Associates Degree in Paralegal in exactly two years and start a job in the field shortly after.”
