Three Interior Design Faculty Receive LEED Accreditation

5/30/2009

The Art Institutes International Minnesota recognizes Interior Design faculty members, Jessica Ainsworth-Truong, Amy Meller, and Dan Whittaker for their recent Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation.   Jessica Ainsworth Truong and Amy Meller both received accreditation in new construction: LEED AP NC and Dan Whittaker received accreditation in commercial interiors:  LEED AP CI.  Per the United State Green Building Council, “LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes building professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System. More than 75,000 people have earned the credential since the Professional Accreditation program was launched in 2001.” (http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=1815)

Jessica Ainsworth-Truong specializes in architecture of place.  She researches climate, geography, geology and culture of a town or region to devise a building that responds to the constraints of that specific area.  Jessica also owns, Ainsworth Design, where she takes on residential and small commercial projects.  The LEED accreditation will help further her ability in teaching Interior Design classes at The Art Institutes International Minnesota.

Amy Meller is a designer at MacDonald & Mack Architects, a Minneapolis firm specializing in preservation, restoration, adaptive re-use, and sensitive additions.  Amy began as a part-time Interior Design instructor at The Art Institutes International Minnesota in 2005.  Her experience ranges from bridges and train cars to city halls, churches, and private residences.  The LEED accreditation demonstrates her understanding of green building, and will positively affect the students at The Art Institutes International Minnesota.

Dan Whittaker is an interior architectural designer and interior design educator with acute interest in historic preservation, design history and construction methods. Dan works with a private-practice Architect and Interior Designer whose focus is on finely detailed residential design and small commercial projects. On weekends, he can be found searching for vintage architectural post cards and taking comparison pictures around town.
