The Practical Nursing certificate program at Brown Mackie College – Salina in Kansas provides students with principles and knowledge from the biological and behavioral sciences, as well as the science of nursing. This knowledge forms the basis for utilizing the nursing process in a professional practice. Concurrent integration of theory into clinical practice is an important aspect of practical nursing education. This program prepares the student for the testing required for the licensure to practice as a licensed practical nurse. Upon completion of this program, the graduate is prepared for an entry-level nursing position in a hospital, nursing home, clinic, or other healthcare facility. Their job duties may include taking vital signs, administering medications, collecting samples for testing, and providing other basic care.The Practical Nursing certificate program offers you courses on:• The structure and function of the human body.• Instruction and laboratory practice in the principles of administering medications, the development of critical thinking skills, and dosage calculation.• The theoretical basis for selected nursing skills and the nursing process, including nursing care of individuals with commonly occurring medical/surgical health problems.
