Eric McCullough, a 2004 Brown Mackie College - Salina graduate, has always been interested in technology. It was during his time served in the Army where his interest in technology first spurred. Eric served with the 101st Forward Support Battalion where his responsibilities ranged from jet fuels to ammunitions.

After being discharged from the Army in 1997, he took a job as a sheet metal technician with Raytheon. Unfortunately, Eric was laid off days after the September 11th terrorist attacks and had to seek new employment. In an effort to gain a more secure professional career, Eric decided to learn more about computers and applications, and enrolled at Brown Mackie College - Salina. "Brown Mackie College -Salina offered flexibility with classes, and I liked the fact that I only had one class a month," says Eric. "This allowed me to work, and balance the other aspects of my life."

According to Eric, one of the reasons he was able to perform so well academically was the outstanding faculty at the school. "The teachers were great. Where I first began my classes, I felt like I was not up to speed with everyone else. But the great teaching skills of the instructors enabled me to be right on target with the rest of my classmates," explains Eric.

Soon after completing the two-year associate's degree program in Computer Networking & Applications, Eric worked as a help desk administrator in the management information systems department at Blue Beacon International corporate headquarters. His main responsibility was to oversee the internal computer system that provided the information needed to keep a business running smoothly. "The education I received at Brown Mackie College - Salina was the reason I have my current job. Blue Beacon International turned to the school to recruit prospective employees, and since I was already taking classes in computer applications, I was able to provide the company with everything they were looking for," says Eric.

Eric has proven that it is never too late to take control of one's professional life. His advice to other Brown Mackie College - Salina students is as follows: "Stay focused, take with you as much as you can from your education, and learn from each other."
