Honor Students at The Art Institutes International Minnesota lend a helping hand to Goodwill/Easter Seals 'Second Runway' Fashion Show

 Students from the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Chapter at The Art Institutes International Minnesota recently teamed up with Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota, a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization, and assisted in developing a sustainable fashion show that took place on Saturday, May 3, 2008, after the Living Green Expo at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds. Proceeds from the fashion show will help support Goodwill/Easter Seals’ programs and services that assist people with barriers to employment get job skills trainings and employment support.

Students volunteered over 200 hours toward this project in various areas including project planning, graphic design, event promotion and set up, videography, decoration and event sponsorship. NTHS student volunteers included Mark Abdella of St. Paul, Minnesota; Nick Adducci of Bismarck, North Dakota; Katey Haflund of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Kelly "KJ" Meath of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Tina Marie Nguyen of Blaine, Minnesota, and Opal Singleton of Oakdale, Minnesota.

Jelena Tosovic, Academic Director for the Graphic Design program at The Art Institutes International Minnesota and Faculty Advisor of NTHS, said, "Our NTHS students are showing admirable energy for their community work and are very involved with various volunteer projects. Their involvement with Goodwill/Easter Seals Power of Work Week is very expressive of the virtues of our organization: excellence in education, skill development, honesty, responsibility, service, leadership, self-esteem, and pride. They are volunteering their skills and generously dedicate their time to help organize the Second Runway Fashion Show for Goodwill/Easter Seals. We are very proud to have such an admirable group of people as our students at The Art Institutes International Minnesota."

What is Second Runway?
Second Runway is a sustainable fashion show presented by Goodwill/Easter Seals to highlight great fashion, great programs and a new way to be eco-friendly and go green! Local designers purchased items from local Goodwill stores chose from five categories (business, business casual, formal, casual formal and night-on-the-town) and to create completely new garments or put together a stylish ensemble from items off-the-rack.
