LIBERAL -- Denarious Darby led a balanced Brown Mackie attack with 14 points as the Lions routed the Sterling College junior varsity 82-44 Saturday.
The Lions (7-7) shot 41 percent from the field, but held Sterling to 31.5 percent shooting, forced 30 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 54-29, including 22 offensive rebounds.
Tyrone Sheppard scored 13 while Bryson Flax and Jacob Jordan each had 10 for Brown Mackie. Jordan also had 10 rebounds, and Flax seven assists and three steals. Darby had five steals and eight rebounds.
Brown Mackie, which led 39-18 at halftime, was minus three players during the weekend, one of them guard Earnest Noel, the team's leading scorer. Backup center Marquis Whitt and reserve forward Kurgis Granger also didn't play.
The Lions play Johnson County on Thursday in Overland Park in their final game before the Christmas break.
Friday: Seward Co. 88, BMC 61
At Liberal, Seward County shot 51.7 percent and held the Lions to 32 percent in their game Friday night.
Seward County opened the game with a 15-3 run and never looked back. The Saints led 45-22 at halftime and led by as many as 31 points (85-54) late in the second half.
Nick Burns led Seward County with 28 points, including six 3-pointers. The Saints were 14 of 30 from 3-point range.
Kenon Lamb led Brown Mackie with 13 points. Darby added 11 and Omar Westmoreland 10.
