HUTCHINSON -- Earnest Noel scored 31 points and Brown Mackie outscored Hamilton College (Neb.) 13-2 the final 6:08 en route to an 87-77 victory Saturday in the Quarterback Classic at the Sports Arena.
Brown Mackie (1-2) trailed 75-74 with 6:08 left in the game -- Hamilton's only lead of the game -- but forced five turnovers and pulled away.
"They were trying to hurry it and we extended our defense," Flax said. "They're a team that spreads the floor and we were out in the passing lanes and they were fumbling it off their hands. I think our guys could smell victory and played harder and got more confidence."
Brown Mackie hit 14 of its 32 3-point attempts, led by Noel who was 6 of 13. Kenon Lamb, who scored 19, was 4 of 4 and Bryson Flax, who finished with 14, was 3 of 10.
Brown Mackie, which led 46-41 at halftime, shot 41.6 percent from the field and Hamilton 41.8 percent.
Aaryon Williams led Hamilton (1-2) with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Morningside, Iowa 90, KWU men 61
At Sioux Falls, S.D., Thomas Pargett scored 21 points in leading Morningside past Kansas Wesleyan. The loss for Wesleyan came one day after the Coyotes' overtime victory over Sioux Falls.
The Coyotes are now 1-1 on the season, Morningside 2-0.
Morningside, which returns all five starters from last year's team that was 19-13 team, shot 58.7 percent from the field (27 of 46) -- 10 of 17 from 3-point range -- and held Wesleyan to 38.3 percent (23 of 60). The Mustangs also won the rebounding battle 39-30.
Morningside raced to a 46-30 halftime lead by shooting 47 percent and holding the Coyotes to 34 percent in the first half. The Mustangs kept KWU at bay in the second half by shooting 60 percent.
DaRon Stafford, Trey Sims, Romero Hood and Mychal Henderson led Wesleyan's attack with nine points apece.
KWU JV women 62, Brown Mackie 59
At Hutchinson, Megan Cavenee scored 22 points, Melanie Berg 14 and Julie Foster 13 for the Wesleyan junior varsity.
KWU led 24-23 at halftime and hung on.
Aiera Carter led Brown Mackie with 23 points on 10 of 14 shooting. Robbin Webber had 11 points and 13 rebounds, and LaChelle Hyatt 13 points.
