The Pharmacy Technology associate’s degree program at Brown Mackie College – Northern Kentucky in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, prepares the student to perform technical duties related to the preparation and dispensing of medication under the supervision of registered/licensed pharmacists. Upon completion of this program, students will be prepared to work in either retail or institutional settings. This program will prepare students for a national certification exam.Pharmacy technicians assist registered/licensed pharmacists in dispensing medication and other healthcare products to patients. They help prepare prescriptions by retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, and measuring medication, and labeling bottles. Pharmacy technicians also may maintain patient profiles, prepare insurance claim forms, and stock and take inventory of prescription and over-the-counter medications.The Pharmacy Technology degree program offers you courses on:• The structure and function of the human body.• Pharmacy practice in both community and institutional settings. Topics include medication dosage forms, routes of administration, pharmacy calculations, interpreting medication orders, drug classifications, and parameters for safe drug usage.• The fundamentals of pharmacy practice with respect to safe and accurate preparation and distribution of medications.
