Brown Mackie College Northern Kentucky Scores High At Recent American Criminal Justice Association Competition

(Ft. Mitchell, Ky. - November 27, 2006) Nine criminal justice students from Brown Mackie College - Northern Kentucky and instructor Brandy Taylor competed in the American Criminal Justice Association (ACJA) regional competition on October 19th, held this year in Columbia, SC. The Brown Mackie College team garnered nine ribbons in competition, which included exams on a variety of criminal justice-related topics.

"We couldn't be more pleased," said Taylor, lead instructor in the school's criminal justice program. "We were competing against schools including University of South Carolina, Eastern Kentucky University, and Florida State University."

Students in the Brown Mackie College - Northern Kentucky chapter of the ACJA's Lambda Alpha Epsilon organization competed in scholastic competition in areas of academics and physical skills, including exams in juvenile justice, corrections, criminal law, police administration, and knowledge in the ACJA's codes of ethics and history.

Students from the school who received awards were: 1st Place Academics Criminal Law - Teresa Barker, 2nd Place Academics Criminal Law - Fancy Strittholt, 2nd Place Academics Police Administration - Michelle Gavin, 1st Place Physical Agility - Michelle Gavin, 2nd Place Physical Agility - Lynn Prill, and 2nd Place Crime Scene Investigation - Sharen Cruce and Fancy Strittholt.

Taylor also received three honors in the Professional Division: 1st Place Academics Juvenile Justice, 2nd Place Academics Corrections, and with student Teresa Barker, 3rd Place Crime Scene Investigation.

Other Brown Mackie College students in attendance included Melissa Elliott, Megyn Davis, Erin Greenwell and Jeannetta Benedict.

"I could not be more proud of Brandy and every one of our students," says Rick Lemmel, president of Brown Mackie College - Northern Kentucky. "The team's results reflect their outstanding dedication to scholarship and hard work."

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina spoke at the special banquet during the competition, and he praised the students for their efforts and emphasized the importance of a criminal justice career.
