Married With a Successful Career, There's Always Time For Fishing

9/30/2008

When Travis Ashcraft enrolled in the associate’s degree program in Computer Networking & Applications at Brown Mackie College — Northern Kentucky, he enjoyed the experience. The monthly class format and course flexibility made it easy for him to work full time while he went to school. As his satisfaction in gaining knowledge grew, he enrolled the associate’s degree program in Accounting Technology, figuring that a second degree would raise his employment potential.

Before graduating in 2007 with an associate’s degree in Computer Networking & Applications, Travis gained valuable experience at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he completed an externship. Travis then received an offer to work at the bank’s Problem Resolution and Escalation Department, supporting employees with computer and ATM issues. After several months, he moved into a team leader position. He was again promoted to the Technical Support team. “I’m a problem solver,” he said, “I work over the phone to resolve vendor issues with credit card machines. I enjoy what I do.”

Today, Travis is newly married and enjoys spending time with his wife and 8-year-old stepson, in addition to attending classes at Brown Mackie College — Northern Kentucky. They make frequent camping trips to Falmouth, KY, sleeping in the open air and fishing a great deal of the time.

“I’ve got no complaints about Brown Mackie College,” Travis said. He credits the personalized service he received from Bobby Gray, Career Services Director at Brown Mackie College — Northern Kentucky, for helping him enter his new career. “If not for him, I would not be at Fifth Third Bank today,” he said. “The only advice that I can give as a graduate would be to keep your mind on the game, and never give up hope at anytime.”
