Amy Wilson worked full time at Verizon as an assistant in the sales department while she attended Brown Mackie College – Northern Kentucky. This professional experience served her well as she progressed through the associate’s degree program in Business Management. In fact, her on-the-job experience served the purpose of her externship.
Real estate has long been an interest for Amy. Prior to graduation Amy worked as a leasing consultant for Hathaway Court Apartments in Florence, Kentucky. After graduation, from Brown Mackie College – Northern Kentucky in 2006 with an associate’s degree in Business Management, she immediately accepted a position as assistant property manager with another Hathaway Court Apartments, a senior citizens community in Covington, Kentucky. Amy’s experience in property management and the completion of her degree made her a prime candidate. She was hired nearly on the spot.
One week into her new job, the property manager accepted a position elsewhere. Amy’s boss, who works from his offices in Atlanta, was so impressed with her abilities that he moved her into the senior position. “It was interesting to figure everything out,” she said.
Today, Amy happily attends to business at Hathaway Court Apartments as the on site Property Manager. Her duties of managing the 159-unit building vary in range and scope. Amy’s responsibilities include setting employee schedules, following up on maintenance calls, keeping accurate records in accordance with the property budget, daily reporting to the home office in Atlanta, and ensuring that the property complies with government regulations. Amy now has her eye on becoming a real estate agent and opening her own property management company. She and her husband have already purchased and renovated several houses, one of which they now call home.
