BROWN MACKIE COLLEGE – NORTHERN KENTUCKY RANKED NATIONALLY AT BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICA COMPETITION

(Ft. Mitchell, KY – October 8, 2009)    Brown Mackie College – Northern Kentucky Student Chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) traveled to Dallas, Texas on June 17 – 21, 2009 to compete in Business Professionals of America, national academic competition for post-secondary students, “Blazing New Trails.”

Under the leadership of faculty advisor Angele Blackshear-Brown, these dynamic students brought home seven gold medals.  Brown Mackie College – Northern Kentucky was unique in being the only college to represent the great Commonwealth of Kentucky. Brown Mackie College – Northern Kentucky student, Kathryn Smith was the only female to rank in an Information Technology contest and was selected as “Peer Intern.”

Out of thousands of students who attended nationwide, the student BPA chapter from Brown Mackie – Northern Kentucky included five post secondary finalists.  Each Brown Mackie College – Northern Kentucky student competitor who traveled to the national competition completed their contest and ranked nationally in the “Top 10” among other collegiate competitors.

A partial list of many colleges and universities that participated in the competition included Idaho State University, Oklahoma State University, Tiffen University, University of Florida, and Zane State University.

All students are enrolled in the Information Technology associate’s degree program. Students and their advisor are: Heidi Roberts (graduated in June 2009) and Kathryn Smith, Daniel Sommerkamp, Angele Blackshear-Brown (faculty advisor), Cody Nelson and Brian Deters.
