BROWN MACKIE COLLEGE – FORT WAYNE TO CELEBRATE STUDENT SUCCESS DURING EDUCATION DAY ACTIVITIES

Posted: 9/24/2009

(Fort Wayne, IN – September 24, 2009)  Brown Mackie College – Fort Wayne will hold activities celebrating student success as part of the school’s Education Day on Saturday, September 26, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The school will hold a Pinning Ceremony, recognizing recent graduates of the Surgical Technology and Medical Assistant programs at 11:00 a.m., and recent graduates of the Practical Nursing program at 12 noon. The school also will hold an Honors Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. for students who have excelled academically and have achieved an academic grade point average of 3.25 or higher over the past academic quarter.

The school adopted the Pinning Ceremony process as the vehicle to recognize all Allied Health program students. The ceremony is a time-honored nursing school tradition, dating back before the turn of the twentieth century. The ceremony marks the passage from a student role to practicing role. Traditionally, students are pinned by someone in the profession, but more recently, students choose to have someone that is meaningful in their lives assume the role. It is a joyous event that many students enjoy sharing with their family and friends.

“The Pinning and Honors ceremonies are an excellent opportunity to share the hard work and academic achievements of our students with friends, family, and the community,” says Melissa Carmono, Dean of Academic Affairs for Brown Mackie College – Fort Wayne. “As in the case of many schools who work with a diverse population, finding opportunities to recognize students is very difficult due to work, family and school obligations. Education Day provides us an excellent venue to celebrate in a very personal way the success of our students and graduates.”

In addition to the Pinning and Honors ceremonies, the school also will be open to the public for tours, student demonstrations, presentations and other activities.

All activities will take place at Brown Mackie College – Fort Wayne, located at 3000 Coliseum Boulevard in Fort Wayne.
