Student and faculty volunteered their time on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at The Art Institutes International Minnesota to assemble and design a new Web site during a national Web Raising event. WebRaising is based on the idea of an old-fashioned barnraising. At no cost to the community organization, the WebRaising teams combined their creative and technical expertise to build new Web sites for non-profit groups in their communities.
"Web Raising gives students and faculty an opportunity to give something back to the community," says Dana Nybo, Academic Director of the Web Design & Interactive Media program. "Young designers should have at least one pro bono piece in their portfolios. I encourage all students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by events like Web Raising."
This year's beneficiary organization is the International Association of Women Police promoting their 2010 conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The new site can be viewed at www.iawp2010.org.
Echoing remarks from all the Web Raising partners, Mylan Masson said, "The students and faculty wanted to be prepared for the project. From the initial meetings to the actual event, the students and faculty worked very quickly, efficiently, and enthusiastically. I learned a lot from watching the students. It was a great learning experience for all."
The team consisted of Web Design & Interactive Media students Jason Nessa of Carroll, Iowa, Kaleb White of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Mark Zahlin of St. Paul, Minnesota and assisted by faculty members Yuri Sheryazen and Tim Armato.
