For Sarina Payne, giving up was never an option. Despite discouraging times, Sarina persistently pursued her educational and professional goals with determination and an optimistic attitude.
Today, Sarina is proud to say that she is a Fall 2004 graduate of Brown Mackie College — Merrillville, with an associate's degree in Accounting Technology. "It took me a long time to decide to return to school. I achieved one goal by graduation from Brown Mackie College — Merrillville with a GPA of 3.75, and now I am continuing my education and will eventually pursue an MBA," says Sarina.
Currently, Sarina works for The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago as a student accounting representative. Some of her job responsibilities include accurate record keeping, monitoring payment plans with student account transaction histories, posting payments and processing refunds.
Sarina knew that her possibilities were endless, and with the proper support system she was destined for success. Brown Mackie College — Merrillville not only provided Sarina with a solid academic foundation, but also offered a nurturing and encouraging environment. "The staff and faculty at Brown Mackie College — Merrillville ere there for me from the very beginning. They were there when I didn't get that first job I interviewed for and they were there when I got this job. Everyone at the school was just as excited as I was, and they had faith in me even when I was doubting myself. Given the chance, the school's faculty and staff will do everything possible to help you achieve your goals," she says.
Sarina truly exemplifies the meaning of a success story. Her ability to remain focused on her goals while keeping an upbeat attitude is an encouragement to others.
"Never give up," emphasizes Sarina. "Sometimes things can seem really discouraging, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel if you just believe in yourself and know that you can be all you know you can be. Be very tenacious, eager, and never, ever say that getting an education is a waste of time. Brown Mackie College — Merrillville was one of the greatest choices I've made thus far."
