(Louisville, Ky. - February 23, 2007) Brown Mackie College - Louisville has received approval to offer an Associate of Applied Science degree in Surgical Technology, an Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology, and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education.
"We are excited to expand the degree programs offered here, and provide additional professional opportunities for our students here in the Louisville region", says Holly Helscher, president of Brown Mackie College - Louisville.
Students in the Veterinary Technology program learn how to work with and under the direction of veterinarians in an office or other medical setting. Students gain valuable skills in animal patient care, anesthesia, surgical assistance, laboratory procedures and radiography. Upon graduation, students are prepared for entry-level positions in veterinary offices and animal hospitals and shelters.
Graduates of the Surgical Technology degree program will be prepared for entry-level employment in the field of surgical technology. The program offers coursework in general and specialty surgical procedures, principles of anesthesia, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and surgical technology techniques.
The Early Childhood Education curriculum includes classes in child growth and development, health, safety and nutrition, language arts, and child guidance and acceptance. Graduates of the program will be prepared to obtain entry-level employment in a number of settings including: pre school/ nursery schools, before and after school care, and early childhood development centers.
The new associate's degree programs in Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology and Early Childhood Education all require 96 quarter credit hours.
Brown Mackie College - Louisville will begin offering the Surgical Technology degree program in February 2007. The Veterinary Technology and Early Childhood Education programs will be offered in March 2007.
