Local Competitor for National Best Teen Chef Final Round Competition Wins Scholarship

5/28/2008

On Saturday, May 17, 2008, high school seniors from across the U.S. and Canada competed in the national Best Teen Chef Cook-off Competition at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Las Vegas. Bailey Kimitch, a senior at Eden Prairie High School from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, competed in the national event and received a quarter-tuition scholarship to attend The Art Institutes International Minnesota in July 2008.

Bailey Kimitch has the proud support of her family, friends and teachers; they were very excited when she was selected for the Best Teen Chef 2008 local competition. Bailey has already begun taking culinary classes through the Advanced Placement program at Hennepin Technical College. Bailey has had an interest in the Culinary Arts since the third grade and experiences a sense of “inner calm” when working in the kitchen. Bailey continues to be inspired by her mom, who baked bread at home, and by Julia Child. After graduation, Bailey aspires to become a Pastry Chef and plans on building her baking and pastry skills; she wants to experience all she can before making any culinary career decisions.

Thirty-one Local Cook-off Competition winners from Art Institutes schools across the country proceeded to the Best Teen Chef Final Round Competition on Saturday, May 17, at The Art Institute of Las Vegas. The top prizewinners in the Competition each received a full-tuition scholarship toward a Culinary Arts associate’s degree, certificate, or diploma program at one of the more than 30 participating Art Institutes locations.

Jonathan Miller of Savannah, Georgia won the Best Teen Chef Final Round Competition, sponsored by The International Culinary Schools at The Art Institutes, becoming the ninth winner to lay claim to the title since the Competition’s inception in 2000. Miller won a full tuition scholarship worth more than $40,000 to study Culinary Arts at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Atlanta and the opportunity to serve as “Intern for a Day” at the Food Network Kitchens. Aldo Sandoval of Emporia, Kansas and Joaquin Gaytan of Mesa, Arizona earned second- and third-place honors, also receiving full-tuition scholarships toward an associate’s degree, certificate or diploma program at one of The International Culinary Schools at The Art Institutes.
